Introduction Appointments
Prior to any grooming services, all dog must book an introduction appointment (regardless of age and grooming experience). This is to allow your dog to explore and get to know me and the environment, without the pressure of being groomed. Even the most calm and confident dog can feel nervous if changing groomers, and an introduction can really help them feel at ease and set them up for success on their first grooming visit. For anxious dogs and those with a bite history, an initial non-grooming appointment is essential to begin building trust and learning about your dog and how they communicate.
Introduction appointments are a chance for me to observe how your dog is feeling and gather useful information at their pace, and make a plan with you about a way forwards. We don’t jump straight into handling or equipment; we build up to that once your dog feels safe. Depending on your dog’s confidence, this process may take more than one session.
During the intro session, I observe:
-
How your dog responds to the environment—are they hiding, clinging to you, or exploring?
-
Whether they take food, which tells us how relaxed they feel.
-
If they approach me willingly or prefer to keep their distance.
-
How they respond to gentle, consent-based touch.
-
Once they're comfortable with all of the above, we begin gradual, positive introductions to grooming equipment.
Cost: £30 - Payable at the time of booking.
