Have you got a dog you'd like to groom yourself? Perhaps you've tried and it hasn't gone well; but with the right guidance on techniques and tools, it's perfectly reasonable to learn how to make a good job of your own dog. Whether you want to bond more with your dog through grooming, or simply to save some money long term through clipping and trimming at home yourself, my Groom Your Own Dog package can help you. I will work with you one to one with your own dog, covering coat care, bathing/drying, hygiene, nail and ear care, clipping and trimming, cooperative care and equipment. We'll chat about what your goals are for your dog's coat care and set a plan to cover everything you'll need to learn to achieve it. Suitable for most breeds and crossbreeds, please reach out to discuss your individual needs and your dog.
What you'll learn
Bathing and Drying
Most people like their dogs to be bathed regularly, but learning to properly bath and dry like a pro will be a game changer for your home grooming styles! You'll learn how to introduce bathing and drying in a positive way and how to properly prepare your dog's coat for clipping and trimming. We'll also cover which dryers will work best for your dog.
Brushing and general coat care
Learn how to introduce your dog to brushing and which brushes to use for their coat. You'll be taught lots of professional tips and tricks to keep your dogs coat mat and tangle free, allowing you to keep them in the length and style that suits you both.
We'll also cover products such as detangling sprays, shampoos and conditioners.
Clipping and Trimming
We'll discuss your dog's coat and your preferred style, and you'll learn how to properly clip or trim for their coat type. We will also cover which scissors to use and how to maintain and style facial hair, paws and the tail!
We'll cover which clippers, scissors and blades are needed for you dog, plus how to clean and maintain your equipment.
Body Language
Most importantly of all, you'll learn how to understand your dog's body language during grooming, so that your sessions can be cooperative and fun for you both, and not something to stress about. You'll get body language handouts to keep, plus we'll observe your dog together throughout each session so you can learn first hand from an expert.
